The seasons change the landscape based on temperature differences. In Korea, the cold month of February is communicated as a linguistic symbol called February in English, or Signified, which is a letter that implies the concept of arbitrariness. For this 2024 digital calendar, I wanted to visualize the signifier by month by expressing the landscape that changes according to the temperature of the season with subjective colors. I used typography to emphasize the connection between the seasons, represented by numbers and letters, and to give them an overall coherence. In this way, I demonstrated the power of media and the comprehensive value of design, integrating artistic expression and functionality to create a work that is closer to people's daily lives. In addition, I wanted to make a positive impact not only in terms of visual beauty but also in terms of providing practical help to people's lives.
February is the last month of winter, so I visualized it as a mix of February and the number 2, with the cold roads, white snow, and bitter cold that can be found in a tree-lined cityscape.
April in Korea is a season of thawing ground, budding buds, and blooming flowers. The pale green color has not yet deepened, and the landscape generates a vibrant energy of life that is organically visualized through typography.
September in South Korea is the time of the year when the green leaves turn brown and disappear into falling leaves. The streets are filled with orange color due to the constantly falling leaves. In September in Korea, where autumn has not yet begun, the streets are more orange than brown, so I visualized the streets with September typography.
