This project was born out of the question of whether design can bring comfort to people. “Good Luck Card" is a set of 11 cards that can be used in different situations to convey a message to others to find happiness and stability in unfortunate moments. Each Good Luck Card consists of an image and a word on the front and back. The words are visualized to convey the meaning of each word, and the images are expressed using AI-style transfer to make them look like digital paintings.
“Good Luck Card: 01 Get Well” is a comforting and heartfelt image of encouragement to a friend in a difficult situation, and takes Vincent Van Gogh's hopeful and positive "Bedroom in Arles" painting and applies it to a ruined cake to create an image that takes on new meaning.
“Goodluck Card: 02 Be Strong” is using AI-style transfer for the spilled liquid and finished pill images to convey the sense of security and peace that Odilon Redon's "Closed Eyes" brings. On the back, I wanted to use bold, strong lines and contrasting colors to convey the intensity of the phrase "Be Strong”.
“Good Luck Card: 03 Slow Down” reminds me of the dents in the corners of my car, and the state of urgency in my mind. It's a message card that says "Slow Down," something I'd like to say to someone like me when they're feeling edgy, nervous, or overwhelmed.
“Good Luck Card: Back Card images” use AI-style transfers from cards other than the "Get Well", "Be Strong", and "Slow Down" message cards.
For the images that use AI-style transfers, I chose paintings that are similar to the words of comfort, such as Vincent Van Gogh's “Bedroom in Arles”, Henri Matisse's “The Joy of Life”, and Odilon Redon's “Closed Eyes”, and trained the machine to visualize your photo in the artist's style.
Create a warm and inviting Good Luck Card Pack using colored acrylic. On the front and back of the pack is a card with the name of the project. The card can be used as an interactive piece that can be removed and replaced. The image is a visualization of the words of comfort that I wanted to convey as the message of the other cards.
